Massage Therapy

A first visit requires a minimum 60 minute appointment. This amount of time includes a review of your health history, conducting any appropriate assessments and special tests, a treatment plan, following with discussing and obtaining appropriate consents. The remainder of the time includes hands on treatment, followed by reassessment. If indicated, your RMT will recommend any appropriate homecare such as strength and/or stretching exercises to support your personal health care goals.

Patients are instructed by their RMT to undress to their comfort level, based on a discussion of their treatment plan and needs. Generally the most effective results are achieved through access to bare skin. Registered Massage Therapy offers a broad range of techniques that may or may not require the use of oil. According to regulatory guidelines, patients are to be draped by a sheet at all times with only the area actively being treated undraped. Patients may discuss with their RMT about alternative covering choices in situations where draping is not desired or the technique requires movements that would be obstructed by a sheet. Some of these situations may require modified draping after discussions with your RMT. Alternative covering choices may include loose fitted clothing, shorts, yoga pants, tank tops, sports bras in order to satisfy the regulatory requirement.

The frequency of your treatments will be determined by both you and your RMT. These decisions will be based on your individual health care needs and may increase or decrease depending on the nature and severity of your chief health complaint. Clear communication between you and your RMT will be important.

An MD referral is not necessary as Registered Massage Therapists are provincially regulated Health Care Providers. Some Extended Health Care Insurance plans require an MD’s referral in order to claim insurance coverage. Please check with your insurance provider or your employer for the specific requirements of your plan.

You will need to provide the following information to Provenance in order to direct bill for you.
The Policy/ Plan Members must share:

• Whether you are the plan member, spouse or dependent.
• First and last name (Spouse and/or dependent)
• Birthdate
• Policy/Plan number
• Member ID/Certificate #

When a patient is making a claim on their insurance for the first time, or for the first time in a new insurance year, they have a deductible which needs to be paid before their treatments are fully covered. This is why you may be required to pay a larger amount for your first (or first few) appointments. Once your deductible is paid, you will not have to pay it again until your insurance renews the following year or until your annual limit is reached.

Insurance policy coverage varies by the plan. Unless your policy covers the full cost of treatment, patients are required by their insurance plans to pay a portion of each treatment. Please review your policy or check with your insurance provider to clarify your coverage.

Deductibles vary by insurance company and by each specific policy. It is best to check with your insurance provider to clarify what your deductible amount is.

Currently, we only Direct bill to one of your primary insurance policies. A receipt with the balance that you owe out of pocket, will be emailed to you so you can then claim your other insurance policy with whatever amount remaining.

Provenance is able to bill directly for Registered Massage Therapy.
